Big Sky Powder Hound Winter Ale

CIMG6962

Big Sky’s Winter seasonal is the Powder Hound. This is a strong amber ale with Hallertau, Palisade, and Amarillo hops.

Stats:
American Amber Ale. 7.2% ABV. 60 IBUs. Montana. Available October-March.

Dark golden color with a fairly minimal head.

A bit of a peppery, hoppy nose with a little bit of crisp malt cracker.

Light to medium body with highish carbonation. Very easy drinking beer. I’d like to see it a bit bigger in the mouth.

Spicy to floral hop flavors and a bit of biscuit and honey also comes through. Some definite bitterness on the back with some more honey and cracker of the malt.

I like this beer, mostly because it’s a lighter Winter seasonal, but it still doesn’t blow me away. I keep coming back, though, because it’s refreshing, hoppy, and drinkable, which is the opposite of most seasonals right now. On those grounds, I love it. I enjoy and recommend it. 87 points.
