Bear Republic Racer X 2012

I’ve been a big fan of their Racer 5 IPA, so I have high hopes for this one. At only 8.3%, it’s relatively tame for a double IPA these days. Personally, I kinda like that.

Double India Pale Ale. 8.3% ABV. 100+ IBUs. California. October Release.

copper color with hazy sediment. Head is okay, but has some nice lacing.

Nice west coast hoppy nose here. Lots of orange and grapefruit with a bit of pine.

Mouthfeel is fantastic. Medium body with medium carbonation. Not too light, nor too heavy.

Floral and citrusy hops up front, but gets a bit of that pine backing it up. Hint of butter, but good length, good finish and good balance.

Very nice double IPA. It’s actually a lighter, more balanced version of many of the big IPAs out here. That being said, it’s flavor is something I’ve tasted about a billion and a half times. 88 points.
