Fish Swordfish

This is one of Fish Brewing’s Reel Ales. Can’t say much more than that, as there’s not much information on the website. I’ve only had one other beer in the Reel Ales series, and I enjoyed it, let’s see how it tastes.

American Black Ale. 7.5% ABV. 64 IBUs. Washington.

Very dark ruby red, nearly black. Decently fluffy head, but it doesn’t last too long.

The nose is more imperial stout like than IPA. Lots of chocolate and some roast with a little bit of soy sauce and a hint of pine.

Mouthfeel is fairly large. Medium-full body with low carbonation.

It’s a little less stout like on the palate. Lots of citrus and a bit of pine come through on the palate. Still quite a bit of chocolate on the palate. Hint of fruit, but nothing that jumps out. Nice length with a good balance of the bitter components to make it drinkable.

A little bit closer to a hoppy stout than a dark IPA, but nothing wrong with that. Can’t say it’s worth the price I paid for it, though. 90 points.
