Elysian Prometheus IPA

This is the second of their three releases for 2012 in their Manic IPA Series. I enjoyed the first one, Idiot Sauvin, but I think I failed to review it. This one will be replaced in September, so get it now if you want to try it. This beer features Pale, Munich, and Crystal malts with the “classic NW trio” of Chinook, Centennial, and Cascade hops.

American India Pale Ale. 6.7% ABV. 60 IBUs. Washington. Limited Release.

Burnt orange to copper in color. Pretty solid head.

Not as big of a nose as I was expecting. Fairly toned down hop profile with a mostly citrus to floral component.

Mouthfeel is great. Medium body with medium-high carbonation.

Oh, there’s actually quite a nice black pepper up front which turns more to a piney floral hop flavor. Not as citrusy as the nose. Medium to medium-high bitterness, they aren’t pulling any punches. Nice grainy finish with a hint of lemon rind.

Pretty tasty. This is the second beer that I’ve had in their Manic IPA series, and I’ve enjoyed both. 88 points.
