HUB Ace of Spades

You win some, you lose some, it’s all the same to me. Ace of Spades in an imperial IPA from Oregon and this one’s not messing around. It weighs in at 100+ IBUs (who needs exacts when it’s that high anyways) and 9.5% ABV. Apparently they add Amarillo, Cascade, and Centennial in the mash tun, first wort, kettle, and dry hop. That’s a hell of a lot of hops.

Imperial India Pale Ale. 9.5% ABV. 100+ IBUs. Oregon. Limited Release.

Caramel color with some carbonation streams. Nice head, but faded fairly quickly.

Guess what? It’s hoppy. It’s piney, it’s citrusy, and it’s even a little boozy. A little bit of sweetness comes through on the nose with a bit of vanilla. It may be a bit over-the-top, but frankly, it smells delicious.

Mouthfeel is full-bodied with medium-low carbonation.

Pine hits your palate first and tastes like a forest. The citrus fills the palate right after giving it an orange and grapefruit flavor. Medium-high bitterness and the alcohol comes through as it warms.

It’s a huge beer, so take it as it is. It does have a pretty delicious hop profile, but the booze bothers me a bit. 90 points.
