Lost Abbey Carnevale

I love a good saison and this particular one is dry-hopped, even better. It’s brewed with Amarillo and Simcoe hops and it also has some malted oats and wheat. It’s dry-hopped with Amarillo.

Stats:
Saison. 6.5% ABV. California. Seasonal Release.

Pale, hazy golden color. It’s your typical bottle conditioned head. It takes up the whole glass with a fairly careful pour.

Very saison-esque of a nose. It’s got some lovely citrus aromas, with a slight funky-ness and an herbal and spicey quality. I’m getting lemons, cloves, slight cheese, and barnyard. Yum.

Mouthfeel is a bit fuller bodied than I’d expect. Nice drinkability, but it’s a bit bigger than most saisons.

Orange, lemon, funky cheese, barnyard. Yes, that sounds strange, but damn if it isn’t delicious. It’s a complex brew but has an American hop profile that gives it that lovely citrus and herbal quality.

This is excellent. One of the better saisons that I’ve had. It hits all of the notes perfectly. A bit sweet, a bit sour, a bit citrusy, a bit funky. It will be a little more bitter than the typical Belgian, as it’s an American influenced beer. 92 points.
