Rogue Dad’s Little Helper
This beer used to be a malt liquor, but was recently changed to a black IPA. Not sure why they decided on changing it. This beer features 2-row, Carawheat, Melanoidin, Carafe Special II with Newport, Chinook, and Cascade hops.
Stats:
American Black Ale. 7.0% ABV. 70 IBUs. Oregon.
Dark brown in color, but one of the lightest I’ve seen of the style. Really nice head with some beautiful lacing around the rim of the glass.
Not a huge hop profile on the nose. The malts come through quite a bit with a chocolate and orange aroma.
Mouthfeel is excellent. Nice medium body but it’s carbonated enough to keep it refreshing.
Chocolate, leather, and a slight smokey-ness. Hops are here with a pretty heavy backend bitterness. Slightly piney, but it’s the flavor is more about the malts here.
This is a different take on the style. It’s lighter in color and showcases the malt flavor but has the hop punch to keep it in the style. 88 points.
