Schell’s Snowstorm 2011

Thanks to Frank for this beer! The Snowstorm is the winter seasonal at Schell’s, but it changes every year. This year is a traditional Wee Heavy. Admittedly, it’s not a favorite style of mine, as they tend to be pretty full-bodied and sweet, but let’s see how it goes.

Scotch Ale. 7.0% ABV. Minnesota. Winter Seasonal.

Dark caramel color. Not a ton of head on this one.

Lots of caramel and dark fruits on the nose. A little bit of vanilla and I’m actually getting just a little bit of booze. Definitely has a sweet smell.

Mouthfeel has a nice full body with just the right amount of carbonation.

Lots of caramel and sweetness here. It’s got some brown sugar, plums, and a nice baked apple component. Hint of vanilla and roasted nuts in there as well.

I rarely enjoy Wee Heavies, but if I was going to drink one, I couldn’t think of a better choice than this. It’s tasty, full-bodied, and sweet. 90 points.
