Silver City Ziggy Zoggy Summer Lager

I’d been wanting to get my hands on this one for awhile. I love a good light lager, but they are a bit tough to find, other than the occasional pils. This is apparently a Zwickelbier, which is a traditional German lager type. This beer features Pilsner and Honey malt with Sterling hops. Let’s see if this will go on my Summer beer list.

Zwickelbier. 5.0% ABV. 33 IBUs. Washington. Summer Seasonal.

Nice orange color. A little bit of head, but it does actually leave some lacing.

Very malty nose. Lots of grain with quite a bit of fruity-ness. There’s a really nice apple and banana aroma.

Crisp carbonation and light mouthfeel.

Lots of fruit up front, again, with the apple and banana, which I enjoy. Of course, it’s very malty, but I’m really surprised at the amount of hops in this one. And when I say hops, I really just mean bitterness.

Not a bad beer, but the bitterness is off-balanced and tends to take over the whole palate. It’s a shame because there are some beautiful malty flavors in here. 86 points.
