Widmer Citra Blonde Summer Brew

This is Widmer’s Summer seasonal. It’s not a very Summer like day, but hopefully that’ll change soon. This beer features Citra hops, if that wasn’t obvious, and Alchemy with Pale and Caramel 10L malts. Let’s see if it’s worthy of your BBQ.

American Blonde Ale. 4.3% ABV. 20 IBUs. Oregon.

Pale orange color. There’s no head on this one.

Well that’s an interesting nose. It’s got this hoppy spice and vegetal thing with a heavy amount of citrus. I’m thinking orange rind mixed with some greens. I do get a little bit of malty undertones. Frankly, this doesn’t smell very good.

Light and highly carbonated. It works for it.

Bleh. It’s got this really strange flavor. All that comes to mind is this orange rind and dandelion with some black pepper. The malts show up a bit on this finish, which is about the only redeeming quality to this beer.

This is one of the worst beers I’ve had in awhile. The flavor is very strange, and frankly, just not good. Everything else about it seems light and artificial. 75 points.
