Caldera Old Growth Imperial Stout

This big beer features 2-row, Munich, Crystal, Brown, Pale Chocolate, and Chocolate malts with Galena and Willamette hops. This is the first beer I’ve had from these guys, hope it’s good.

Russian Imperial Stout. 8.8% ABV. Oregon. Winter Release.

Very dark chocolate brown, nice and oily looking. A bit of a tan head stays on there. Beautiful looking brew.

Fantastic nose. Everything you’d expect on an a good imperial stout. You get coffee, chocolate, vanilla, dirt, soy sauce, a bit of anise, raspberries, and a little bit of a brown sugar sweetness.

Mouthfeel is perfect. Full bodied and inky just like I want for this style of beer.

I’m going to repeat myself, but the palate is full of chocolate, coffee, toffee, dirt, minerality, soy sauce, anise, and the list goes on. This is complex city, and this is delicious. There’s an amazing amount of semi-sweet chocolate that stays on the palate and won’t let go long after you’ve drunk your last sip.

This is an imperial stout. This is the reason beer geeks freak out. This is complex and delicious. And this can hold it’s own with many of the world-class stouts. 92 points.
