Big Sky Moose Drool

CIMG3827

This is Big Sky’s flagship beer. Chances are you’ve had this beer. I’ve had it quite a few times, but this is my first review. This beer features pale, caramel, chocolate, and black malts with Kent Goldings, Liberty, and Willamette hops.

Stats:
American Brown Ale. 5.3% ABV. Montana.

Brown with reddish hues and it has a nice off-white head.

The nose isn’t very exciting. You get some typical brown ale aroma, but it’s very light.

Mouthfeel is low to medium bodied with a carbonation crispness.

So this is everything that you would expect from a typical brown. It’s got lots of brown sugar and caramel flavors with a bit of sweetness, but has a little bit of hops to try and balance it out. Baked apples come heavy because it’s got that spice and brown sugar note. The finish is just slightly roasty with some coffee and toffee, and it’s just delicious. After drinking a witbier, I’ve noticed this cayanne pepper thing that is freaking awesome.

This is a classic American beer and if you havn’t tried it, do yourself a favor. But it’s by no means the greatest beer. It’s actually very light in the mouthfeel and too light in the flavor department, but it does have sessionability on it’s side mixed with a little bit of sweetness that a lot of folks are gonna like. 86 points.
