Surly Abrasive

Here’s another from the package @13mikey sent me! This was originally called 16 Grit, but changed the name to Abrasive when they started canning it. They describe this beer as a double oat IPA. The malts include 2-Row, Golden Promise, Lite Crystal, and oats, with Warrior and Citra hops.

Double India Pale Ale. 8.8% ABV. 120 IBUs. Minnesota. Available December-March

Burnt orange color with no real head.

Big nose. A ton of hops which brings some pine and quite a bit of citrus. Pine dominates the aroma but also has a nice floral component.

Decent mouthfeel, but fairly high carbonation.

Palate is similar to the nose. Hops fill the palate with a ton of pine, grapefruit, and orange with a slight floral component and is not shy about the bitterness, but still pretty well-balanced.

Not much to say here, just pretty damn good. 90 points.
