Widmer Brrrbon

This beer is actually Widmer’s winter warmer Brrr that’s been aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels. It features 2-row pale, Carapils, Caramel 10-L, Caramel 80-L, and Dark Chocolate malts with Alchemy, Simcoe, and Cascade hops. This isn’t a cheap one, but it has some great packaging. I’ve heard good things about it, so let’s see what I think.

Winter Warmer. 9.4% ABV. 40 IBUs. Oregon. Released September 2010.

Fairly light color, almost amber. Not much head here.

The nose is pretty much the smell of bourbon. The whiskey dominates here, I hope the palate isn’t the same way.

Mouthfeel is good, medium to full bodied.

The bourbon is actually much more tame on the palate. You get the winter warmer flavors with bourbon and vanilla coming through.

Not too bad, and it’s exactly what you would think Brrr would taste if it touched a bourbon barrel, but certainly not worth the price. I’m actually surprised by the balance on the palate, so I’ll give them some kudos for that. 88 points.
