Thunderhead Cornstalker Dark Wheat

This can comes from a little brewery in Nebraska. I’m excited to give this one a taste, as it’s one of my favorite styles of beer. I love dark wheat beers. Apparently this beer is brewed with corn, but they talk about it in a good way, so let’s see how that turns out.

American Dark Wheat Ale. 5.2% ABV. Nebraska.

Dark chocolate brown with a not bad head.

The nose is a subtle, but there are some nice wheat and chocolate aromas. Very, very chocolatey actually. Go sniff some chocolate, and this is what you’ll get.

Light mouthfeel, would like to see it a bit bigger.

Some roast and banana flavor. More roast flavor on the back. It’s surprisingly fruity on the mid-palate. I’m surprised that I’m not getting that chocolate from the nose. Pretty straight-forward beer.

Not amazing, but would work if you want something light on a hot day. The roast flavor is a bit too high on the back. I don’t know why they are proud to put corn in this, but I don’t think it helps the flavor at all. It’s just too light, and then overcompensated with that roast flavor, even though there are some good flavors up front. 81 points.

It looks like you are robbing people’s corn.
