Hopworks Urban Brewery (HUB) Abominable Winter Ale

This is my first HUB beer, and I’ve heard good things about them. This is another old review, so I don’t think you will have much luck finding this beer right now, as it’s their Winter release. According to Beer Advocate, it’s made with 6 organic malts and Cascade, Centennial, and Simcoe hops.

American Amber Ale. 7.3% ABV. Oregon.

Burnt orange color with a nice little head.

Just a ton of hops on the nose. I’m getting pine, a little mint, and a really nice orange/citrus aroma. Much more IPA like, than a winter warmer.

Decent mouthfeel. Good body and carbonation makes it a little frothy.

Just like the nose, the palate has a ton of hops. Lots of pine and citrus up front with some nice notes of vanilla and spice. The malts come through here a bit to balance the beer out, and bring a slight caramel and sweetness to this beer.

Not what I was expecting, but if I want a ton of hops, I’d grab this again. Pretty decent stuff. 89 points.
