Unibroue Maudite

I’m glad to see Unibroue has finally updated their website. Lots of good info about the beers now, but still doesn’t say what malts and hops are in this beer. If you have never had a Unibroue, do yourself a favorite and try some. They make some excellent beers, but very Belgian, so keep that in mind.

Belgian Strong Dark Ale. 8.0% ABV. 22IBUs. Canada.

Really dark coppery color with great head. Really murky with sediment.

The nose is yeasty with brown sugar sweetness. Very Belgian with lots of esters. I’m getting a ton of bananas, apples, and spices.

Medium bodied, high carbonation.

Belgian yeast up front with an almost sour fruit flavor. I’m getting baked apples, bananas, and a ton of spices. Cardamon, and cinnamon and cloves come through strong. It ends with baked apples again.

Nice beer, but very Belgian, so be careful if you don’t like that. 90 points.
