Spoetzl Shiner Bock

CIMG1872

Shiner bock is a pretty well-known beer, but I hadn’t tried it before until recently. It was pretty cheap, about $2 for a large bottle. Doesn’t seem to be much information about it on their website. It does say that it “demonstrates the care of a handcrafted brewing process to bring forth a mellow taste free of the bitter aftertaste found in many micro, specialty, and imported beers.” I guess that’s a good way to distance yourself away from craft beer?

Stats:
Bock. 4.4% ABV. 13 IBUs. Texas.

Light Coke color with a head that fades fast.

The nose is very closed. All I really get is some adjunct lager smells, kinda grainy.

Light bodied with high carbonation.

Adjunct lager! Grainy, some lemon, extremely light, extremely boring. The taste is unacceptably light and leaves your palate immediately. I wish there was more I could talk about here…..

I hate to say that the pride and joy of Shiner, Texas is this bad. I understand that it’s $2.00, but this isn’t any better than a macro product. But I guess that’s what they are going for. Who wants flavor and complexity anyways? 73 points.
