Stone Vertical Epic 10.10.10


This years edition of the Vertical Epic is a triple brewed with dried chamomile flowers, triticale (a hybrid of wheat and rye), and Belgian amber candy sugar. Then they add just pressed Muscat, Gewurztraminer, and Sauvignon Blanc wine grapes. Very interesting take on a Belgian. Let’s see how it tastes today on 10.10.10.

Belgian Style Strong Ale. 9.5% ABV. California.

Dark golden color, no head. Some carbonation streaming.

Well the nose just smells a lot like a Belgian tripel. Lots of Belgian yeast and slightly sweet with a lot of fruit. I’m getting tangerines, oranges, apricots, and bananas. There is a slight floral note, as well as, just a hint of a wine presence.

The palate is actually kind of light, with higher carbonation.

The palate is very similar to the nose, but with an even more pronounced wine flavor. Slight bitterness on the back end, which reminds me of tannins. Quite a bit of tropical fruit. Good length, with honey notes.

I like this, interesting beer. It’s not over-the-top, and it’s definitely a tripel profile, but with just a whole lot more going on. If you don’t like Belgians, you won’t like this. 91 points.
