21st Amendment Brew Free Or Die IPA

This canned IPA features 2-row Pale and Munich malts with Warrior hops for bittering, Columbus and Cascade hops, and then dry-hopped with Amarillo, Ahtanum, and Simcoe. Sometimes Warrior hops scare me a little because a little can go a long way. Let’s see how it tastes.

India Pale Ale. 7.0% ABV. 70 IBUs. California (can says MN).

Light coppery color, much more towards an amber color though, not too much head, but leaves some lacing.
Hops are there on the nose, but nothing crazy, adding a little bit of pine. The nose has a lot of diacetyl, actually smells a lot like a Rogue beer. More fruit come out on the nose than anything else. Getting a lot of lemons and apricots. Actually I think if I baked an apricot, squirted some lemon on it, with just a tad bit of rosemary and butter, and you'd be pretty close.

Medium bodied with a softer carbonation than most.

A lot of butter, lemon, and apricot come through right away. The mid-palate presents a cinnamon component that I like with more apricots. The end is okay. Kind of off-putting, but low bitterness. Just doesn’t taste very good. I think all the hops were waiting to ambush there. It’s sort of a leafy, green bitterness that just isn’t making my palate happy.

This is an alright beer. I think there are much better choices out there. 84 points.
