Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock

Another Ayinger beer, this one a highly rated doppelbock. A bock is a dark lager, and doppelbocks are stronger versions. The color can range quite a bit, as we saw the Optimator was a dark mahogany color while the Celebrator is nearly black.

Doppelbock. 6.7% ABV. Germany.

Very dark with red hues. Leaves a nice head.

The smell reminds me of a good stout. Lots of caramel and chocolate. Some oak and vanilla notes.

Medium bodied, probably one of the thicker lagers you will have, and a little bit of carbonation.

Tastes like a stout, lot of caramel and chocolate, vanilla and oak again. A little bit of bitterness on the back end. I also get a nice banana flavor.

Pretty good stuff, essentially a stout, but a little lighter with a ton of complexity. 90 points.
