MacTarnahan’s Goose Bump

Sweet label right? This brew features 2 Row, Caramel, Black, and Chocolate malts with roast barley and oats, but there are only Perle hops in this one. It’s brewed with coffee beans and on the website it says it’s brewed with a spice blend of Latin America, East African, and Indonesian, whatever that means. It says it’s available from November to January, but I just got it recently.

Imperial Stout. 9.0% ABV. 56 IBUs. Oregon.

Dark brown, not quite black, and not too much head.

Just a ridiculous amount of coffee on the nose. There is a little chocolate, and caramel. Very Starbucks-y, that’s about it.

Mouth feel is actually pretty light and highly carbonated, not what I want to see.

Coffee, coffee, coffee. A little chocolate, caramel, and roast malts. There is this kind of acidicy from the coffee that gives it an almost sour flavor.

This beer is very straight forward. If you want coffee, this delivers. But because of that, it’s off-balanced, one-dimensional, and slightly boring. Not much complexity here. 84 points.
