New Belgium Lips of Faith Belgian Style Blond

A strong golden ale, this beer has Saaz and Stryian Goldings hops. I’m not sure what the malts are, but there is probably a large portion of Pale malts. This will be the second Lips of Faith series beers that I’ve had, and I enjoyed the first one.

Belgian Blonde Ale. 8.5% ABV. 30 IBUs. Colorado.

Pale golden color with no head.

The nose is Belgian yeast and fruit. This smells a bit like a sparkling wine. Lots of light, tropical fruits with a nice yeasty background.

Light to medium bodied and pretty high carbonation.

Unfortunately, the nose is much better than the palate. It’s surprisingly hoppy with some fruits, but the hops seem to take over, and not in a good way. Oddly astringent, and off-balanced. Not really all that yeasty either. Pretty flat flavor, and boring.

Something went wrong with this beer. Instead of beautiful fruits dancing around my palate, you get this really flat flavored, off-balanced, boring blonde ale. 79 points.
