Washington State IPA Blind Challenge Pt. 6

Beer 6-8 pairing

beer 6 is darker in color, but beer 8 has better head and lacing.

The sweetness of beer 6 is what jumps out first. Its really got a nice brown sugar component. Dark fruits come through with a nice chocolate component. Caramelized malts come through heavy. Nice nose. Beer 8 is more hoppy. A lot more pine on the nose, with a cheddar cheese type thing that I get. It’s also pretty dark with quite a bit of caramelization.

Beer 6 is light to medium bodied, while beer 8 is much thicker.

Beer 6 has a bit of hops on the initial attack, and it kind of fades to more dark fruits. It’s kinda light and the flavor fades pretty quickly. There is a bit of bitterness, but not too over the top. Beer 8 much more vegetal and a lot more bready and almost a cheese component. Some dark fruits in the mid, but ends with quite a bit of bitterness.

Interesting tasting. Both these beers are a bit dark, and caramelized for IPAs. I honestly believe both these beers are about equal in quality. I do not think they are great beers, though. I think my initial assessment was correct, and I’m gonna go with 85 points with beer 6 and 86 points with beer 8.

And the loser is…

Lazy Boy IPA
India Pale Ale. 6.2% ABV. 75 IBUs. Everett Washington.

This is actually the first Lazy Boy beer I’ve had, despite their availability in the area. Not a bad beer at all, pretty solid stuff. This one is brewed with Chinook, Cascade, and Amarillo hops with Pale, Crystal, and Munich malts. So pretty typical to the others.

And the next post will be the championship round. Who is gonna win?

Loving these matchups man. How’s the liver doing? HA! Lazy Boy has one of the coolest labels I’ve seen.

I’m not sure. I think I’ve seen the LAzy Boy at the local grocery store’s “Wine and Spirits” wing, but I’ll have to double check.
