Stone Imperial Russian Stout Spring 2009

I know, this is the 5th Stone beer in a row, but it’s the last one. This one is the highly rated Imperial Russian Stout that is a Spring release from them. This one packs in the Warrior hops for 90 IBUs!

Russian Imperial Stout. 10.5% ABV. 90 IBUs. California.

Totally black, not much of a head but leaves some decent lacing.

Lots of roasted malts. A ton of coffee, hint of alcohol, but also surprisingly fruity. Banana and a bit of citrus come out, strawberries and some chocolate.

Full bodied but also has quite a bit of carbonation.

So much roasted malts, but a lot of fruit comes into the mid-palate. The finish is first chocolate, then coffee but also has a big dose of vanilla. Pretty high bitterness. The roasted coffee flavor doesn’t leave the palate.

Reminds me of the Bourbon County Stout. Very well-made stuff, but also really high bitterness levels. 91 points.
