Stone Oaked Arrogant Bastard

This beer is the Arrogant Bastard, but with oak chips added to it, not aged in oak barrels.

American Strong Ale. 7.2% ABV. California.

Dark brown with a lot of red in it. It also has a great head and really excellent lacing.

So the nose smells a lot like Arrogant Bastard. It’s very malty with a certain hop presence giving it a nice grapefruit aroma. It’s citrusy with a ton of vanilla.

Medium to full bodied, pretty thick mouthfeel actually, with decent amount of carbonation.

This pretty much just tastes like arrogant bastard. Very malty up front and then the hops come into the picture. A lot of grapefruit on the palate from the hops. There is a little oak, but I can hardly tell. It ends with quite a bit of bitterness, but it also has the incredibly creamy, vanilla component that is blowing me away.

This is pretty good. I don’t necessarily recommend over the original, but that extra vanilla/creamyness is what makes this my favorite of the 3 arrogant bastard ales. 91 points.
