Pike Auld Acquaintance

Another winter seasonal, this time from Pike brewing in Seattle. This one uses Pale, Munich, Crystal, and Wheat malts with Magnum, Willamette, and East Kent Goldings. So there is a bit of the Northwest and English in this beer. It’s also only 5% ABV, which ranks as one of the lowest winter warmers around.

Winter Warmer. 5.0% ABV. 32 IBUs. Washington.

Not as reddish as most winter warmers. Coppery brownish, with a good head and nice lacing.

A little bit aromatically challenged. Lots of everything, though. Lots of malt, but also a hop presence, with a lot of citrus and spice.

Good mouthfeel, just a little bit of carbonation and medium bodied.

Interesting flavor. Reminds me of a white beer a little bit because of the spices. Hop presence, but not over powering at all. Lots of maltyness, and a little bit of bittering hops on the back end. Nice spices though.

I’m actually pretty high on this winter ale. I haven’t been liking these really “hoppy winter warmers” but this one is nice and balanced with great spices on it. What a treat from Pike. 89 points.
