Great American Beer Festival

(IMG=Mutineer Magazine)

The results are in from the Great American Beer Festival, and the northwest made a great showing. I did not get to go, due to being a poor college student.

First of all, I want to congratulate Chuckanut Brewery in my town of Bellingham, WA, for winning best small brew pub of the year. They also won 2 gold’s for their Dunkel, and Vienna Lager, and took home 2 silvers for their Schwarzbier and Pilsner.

Other medal winners from Washington were Pyramid with their hefe (one of my favorites), and Mactarnahan’s Amber, both winning golds. Ram brewery won a silver for their Kolsch. Redhook took home a gold for the ESB, and a silver for the Treblehook barleywine. Silver City Brewing also had a good showing with two golds for their Old Scrooge old ale and Ridgetop Red, and a bronze for their Pilsner. Snipes Brewing also took home a bronze for Coyote Moon, an English style mild ale.
Oregon had 22 breweries won medals. Deschutes won a silver for Mirror Pond pale, and bronze for Black Butte porter and a Belgian style Quad. Full Sail won a gold for their Black Session lager. Rogue also received a couple silvers for their Imperial Chocolate Stout, and Mocha Porter. There was one brewery in Idaho that got a medal. The Grand Teton Brewing Co. won a gold for their Sweetgrass IPA.

All in all, a pretty good showing for the Pacific Northwest. Would have hoped our IPA’s would have done better considering it is kind of the specialty of the area. If you would like to see the full list of winners, go here:
